Cumberland Playground Project

Cumberland Park on Cumberland Drive is a popular destination for many families in the neighborhood and much of west Redding.  The current play structure is the original installation, which dates back to 1992.

The goal is to replace the existing play structure with a newer, bigger and better structure, and enlarge the play area, including a swing set and possibly a shaded picnic area. The City of Redding will fund replacement of the current play structure; however, public funds are insufficient to add other enhancements such as a swing set or a shaded picnic area. We need to raise approximately $25,000 in cash and in-kind contributions to complete the entire project.

Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2021. Besides community volunteers to help with certain tasks during construction, sponsorships are available for the following playground items:

  • Mud puddle water feature – $5,000

  • Shade structure – $10,000

  • Swing set – $5,000

In addition, we are seeking donations for the following materials:

  • 3-inch perforated drain pipe and fittings

  • 4 magnetic torpedo-type levels

  • 8 ratcheting tie-down straps (1,000-lb load limit)

  • 15 rolls of geotextile fabric (300-foot rolls; California Paving Company, GT-160)

  • Drain and aggregate base rock

  • Concrete for sidewalk

  • Forms for constructing sidewalk

  • Sand

  • Plastic wheelchair access ramp (American Disabilities Act compliant)

  • Backhoe and operator
